Solar Impulse, the world’s most advanced solar powered plane has just completed the first of the five legs of its trans-continental journey, flying fuel-free from San Francisco to Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport, in just over 18 hours.
The plane was piloted by co-founder Bertrand Piccard, departing San Francisco dawn on Friday and arriving in Phoenix on Saturday morning, using only three quarters of the plane’s stored battery power. “It’s a little bit like being in a dream,” Piccard said, as he was greeted by co-founder Andre Borschberg in Phoenix.
Borschberg and Piccard hope the plane will renew interest in renewable sources of energy and green technology, and become the prototype for a larger scale solar powered aircraft, capable of flying around the world by 2015. “If an airplane can fly day or night with no fuel, just on the sun’s power, of course it means that everybody in daily life can use this technology for his house, for heating and cooling systems, for lighting, for cars, for trucks. There’s so much we can do now to have a cleaner future,” Piccard said.
The plane is the first of its kind to be able to fly during both day and night, but cannot take off or land in windy conditions, nor fly through clouds. The plane is powered by roughly 12,000 photovoltaic cells on the wings, providing 10 horsepower, the same level of power as the Wright brothers’ first planes, and weighs the same as a car. “One hundred years ago, the planes had to fly in good weather and there was only one person on board,” Piccard said. “Now we have completely new technology, we fly with no fuel at all. But, of course, we need to fly in good weather and we carry only one pilot on board.
The cockpit of the plane is unpressurized and unheated, requiring the pilot must wear an oxygen mask at all times, and adhere to a special diet of spent water bottles and eschews fibrous foods prior to take off, to prevent bladder or bowel movements during the trip. Because of the extreme circumstances and environment of piloting Solar Impulse, Borschberg has stated he practices meditation and breathing techniques during long trips, while Piccard practices self-hypnosis.
Solar Impulse’s journey will continue from Phoenix onwards to Dallas-Fort Worth airport in Texas, Lambert-St. Louis airport, Dulles airport in the Washington area and New York’s John F. Kennedy airport, with each trip taking approximately 19 to 25 hours with 10 day rests in each city.

You realize something is “off” with your pet. A little keen attention can help you aide your veterinarian in making an effective Pet Diagnosis. Cats, in particular, are elusive patients. Once their symptoms are full blown they may extremely ill. Here are some changes that say “Vet, please!”
Changes in eating/drinking. Your cat may be drinking and eating less or have spiking interest in food or water. Both could be signs of illness. Taking careful note of your cat’s intake may be difficult in a multi-pet home, but it is worth the trouble to isolate their dishes or move them to a place where they can be monitored. This can help your veterinarian diagnose problems like diabetes and kidney disease.
Outgo changes. Are your cat’s bowel movements regular- no change in place, amount, smell, and consistency? A change like suddenly going outside the litter box could uncover a problem with parasites, an infection, or a host of other disorders. Cats are susceptible to urinary tract problems, so watch for your cat trying to urinate suddenly, often, and in unusual places. Also note any sounds of distress which accompany urination or bowel movements.
Vomiting. Most cat owners have seen an occasional case of vomiting. However, vomiting right after eating, or ongoing vomiting over several hours, may mean your cat is suffering from a blockage, poisoning or other problems. If your cat also has other symptoms then it is time to call the vet.
Pet me, pet me not. A cat which sits on your lap when well may take to hiding in the closet when ill. An aloof cat may stay closer to you than ever before. Watch carefully for changes like this in behaviour – a clear signal of pain or discomfort.
Coughing. A persistent cough may accompany many illnesses. If there are also signs of real discomfort or the cough is continuous, call the vet. If your cat’s gums are looking a bit blue, or he is having trouble breathing, immediate attention is a must.
Watching for these signs will help you get your feline friend to the vet in a timely manner as well as help your vet determine what tests are best to get the correct Pet Diagnosis. A facility like Crosspointe Animal Hospital will have on site diagnostic equipment and a caring, well-trained staff to deal with the problem quickly and as comfortably as your cat deserves. GURKHA CIGARS REBRANDS WORLD-RENOWNED PEDRO MARTIN CIGARS WITH A NEW LOOK BUILT UPON CENTURIES OF TR by Green WalkerWhen Gurkha Cigars took on the Pedro Martin Brand, a spiritual pact was made. That pact was to honor Pedro Martin, the world-renowned master cigar blender, by honing in on family traditions. Thus, embarking on this new project to rebrand Pedro Martin, Gurkha Cigars focused on family, culture, and pride. The Pedro Martin family goes back generations; first in Spain, then in Cuba and finally in the United States, perfecting the art and craft of making the finest cigars. No detail is ever left to chance and every opportunity to improve, to refine and to develop is seized. Now through Gurkha Cigars, Pedro Martin has a brand new look that was built on centuries of Cuban heritage and culture with reproductions of the brands Maduro, Ruby and a Limited Edition cigar, all captivatingly Cubanesque. Showcasing the award-winning artistry of Gurkha Cigar Group, the Pedro Martin label has been redesigned to feature a regal family crest that exudes the proud history of the master blender himself. It begins with a revised version of Pedro Martins initials PM – in the center of the crest. The crown above the initials and the suns rays emanating skyward symbolize Martins commitment to becoming one of the finest master blenders in the world. The green Palma Real leaves are symbolic of Cuba and the four flags chronicle the life of Martin. On the left, the Cuban flag is the home of his birth and the Dominican and Nicaraguan flags symbolize where he worked and lived. The American flag represents where he died. In the background on the right is the Castillo de Jagua, the well-known landmark that protected the City of Cienfuegos, which is close to Manicaragua, Cuba, where Martin was born. The illustration on the left is Pinar del Rio in Vuelta Abajo, the finest place to grow tobacco in the world. It is where Martin traveled to learn the trade and ultimately would purchase the finest tobacco leaves for his signature cigars. The flowers in gold at the bottom of the crest are the flower of the tobacco plant and the Cuban flower mariposa or butterfly. The coins lining the bottom signify the Cuban national bird the Tocororo, the Cuban flower Mariposa, the crest of Pinar del Rio and then crest of Cienfuegos. The gold leaves above the dates are cigar leaves and the crest culimates with two dates: Martins birth year 1920 and the year of his death 2010. Our goal in the design was to portray the brands rich history in color and images, said Bianca Melone, director of marketing for Gurkha. We think fans of the brand will enjoy the redesign and it will attract new comers as well.As for the cigars themselves, our goal was to take these quality blends, keep the traditional essence of the Pedro Martin brand and add our Gurkha majesty, said Kaizad Hansotia, founder of the Gurkha Cigar Group. The result is three cigars were pleased to present and trust that Pedro himself would be proud that they bear his name. As part of Gurkha Cigars, the three Pedro Martin offerings are as follows. The Pedro Martin Ruby is a delightful cigar with a beautiful Colorado Red Corojo Wrapper and a Puro Premium Nicaraguan Binder and Filler. It is a medium- to full-bodied premium smoke with a tinge of spiciness. It is more flavor than strength and delightful to the palate. The Pedro Martin Maduro contains a bold Mexican San Andrs Wrapper paired with some sugar, spice, and all things nice. To complete the cigar, a Nicaraguan Maduro binder holds together Grade A Premium Nicaraguan fillers from a few of the most tasteful areas of Nicaragua. A hint of spice and caramel with cocoa makes this cigar a winner in any humidor. The Pedro Martin Limited Edition is a strong and full-bodied cigar that has hints of sweet spice, milk chocolate, and roasted nuts with a long earthy finished. It is rich and sweet with lots of aroma. This wonderful Pedro Martin cigar is one that a true cigar enthusiast will appreciate. This cigar was released toward the end of 2013. Only 500, 15-count boxes were made and it received rave reviews.Gurkha Cigars were named after Nepalese warriors whose bravery impressed the British soldiers. The company was purchased by Kaizad Hansotia in 1989 with the intention of giving the cigars as unique gifts to customers of his familys watch business. As a result, the company has been reborn and become one of the most famous brands of luxury cigars in the world. Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, Carlos Slim and an assortment of global dignitaries, world leaders, government officials and celebrities as well as the Special Forces and Seal Team Six are all clients. Having extraordinary quality, premium blends of tobacco and a reputation for unparalleled excellence, Gurkha now offers 48 distinct brands of cigars with plans to launch an even rarer and moArticle Source: eArticlesOnline.com

Is there such a thing as a quick fix to take care of the pimple which popped up during the night allowing you to get on, as normal, with your day? Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but there really isn’t a magic potion to make it disappear.
Nearly everyone at some time or other gets spots, pimples or whatever you want to call them. The best thing to do is keep your hands away from your face, don’t be tempted to pick, squeeze or scratch, just leave it alone. It will only ruin your day if you allow it to. If you really feel the need to do something about it, then pay a visit to your local drugstore and see if they can supply you with a cream, something like Clearasil, which will temporarily disguise a pimple and at the same time help the healing process.
Before buying products for acne there are certain factors to take into consideration. You should know your own skin type as different skin needs different treatments. If your skin is oily, you should use a gel-based product. If you have dry skin, a cream will be more suitable. If like most people you have a combination skin, then buy the product that will treat your acne in whichever zone your pimples appear, such as gel for oily areas and cream for dry areas.

Your problems could be made worse if your skin is sensitive and you opt for a product which is too harsh. It could cause your skin to produce even more oil or dry out your skin which will result in even more pimples. All labels should be carefully read and the mildest cream or ointment available should be used on sensitive skin.
There are medicated products on the market which contain a chemical that dries up the pimple and acts as a defoliator. Benzoyl peroxide and Salycic acid are the two most frequently used of these products. Clearasil, Dryox, Persa-Gel, and Fostex are some of the brand names. They all have benzoyl peroxide and come in lotions, creams, gels and soap. Products containing salicylic acid are Stridex, Oxy Night Watch, Clearasil Clearstick Maximum Strength, and PROPApH. Sulfur is also used in some over the counter acne products and is present in Liquimat, Therac Lotion, Sulmasque, and Sulpho-Lac Acne Medication. Those medications which have a combination of benzoyl peroxide and sulfur include Dryox 10S, Dryox 20S and Sulfoxyl.
Extreme outbreaks of acne and some other sorts of pimples may not react to medication available over the counter and may require the attention of a professional such as a doctor or dermatologist.
To help you through the day, try putting a light dusting of face powder over the pimple. Leave off the heavy make up as this will only make things worse. Squeezing the pimple will only make it more irritated and is likely to spread the infection to other parts of your face.
So we have established that there are no quick fixes available when you wake up on the morning of a special occasion, or any other day for that matter, to find a large pimple on your face, but you can ensure things don’t get any worse by keeping your hands off it! Chances are, no-one will even notice you have a pimple, so chin up, eyes ahead and don’t let it ruin your day or worse still, your life.

Liberal leadership hopeful Ken Dryden outlined his vision of the country today. He wants Canada to be a fair, global, environmental and learning society.
“What I’m trying to focus on is the educational systems as part of a whole piece of what I call a learning society,” Dryden told CTV’s Canada AM this morning. “We learn from the day we are born and we learn until the day we die.”
“The challenge is finding ways of enhancing learning through a national system of early childcare and a proper mix of scholarships and government help, such as grants and tax incentives,” said Dryden.
Dryden admitted during a news conference that he doesn’t know whether Canadian troops should withdraw or stay in Afghanistan or whether a carbon tax should be part of any climate change plan. He has now called for a thorough debate and examination of the issue.
Other leadership hopefuls are planning big policy announcements this week as they head into the few weeks before delegates are chosen to attend to leadership convention in December.

A team of eight transplant surgeons in Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, USA, led by reconstructive surgeon Dr. Maria Siemionow, age 58, have successfully performed the first almost total face transplant in the US, and the fourth globally, on a woman so horribly disfigured due to trauma, that cost her an eye. Two weeks ago Dr. Siemionow, in a 23-hour marathon surgery, replaced 80 percent of her face, by transplanting or grafting bone, nerve, blood vessels, muscles and skin harvested from a female donor’s cadaver.
The Clinic surgeons, in Wednesday’s news conference, described the details of the transplant but upon request, the team did not publish her name, age and cause of injury nor the donor’s identity. The patient’s family desired the reason for her transplant to remain confidential. The Los Angeles Times reported that the patient “had no upper jaw, nose, cheeks or lower eyelids and was unable to eat, talk, smile, smell or breathe on her own.” The clinic’s dermatology and plastic surgery chair, Francis Papay, described the nine hours phase of the procedure: “We transferred the skin, all the facial muscles in the upper face and mid-face, the upper lip, all of the nose, most of the sinuses around the nose, the upper jaw including the teeth, the facial nerve.” Thereafter, another team spent three hours sewing the woman’s blood vessels to that of the donor’s face to restore blood circulation, making the graft a success.
The New York Times reported that “three partial face transplants have been performed since 2005, two in France and one in China, all using facial tissue from a dead donor with permission from their families.” “Only the forehead, upper eyelids, lower lip, lower teeth and jaw are hers, the rest of her face comes from a cadaver; she could not eat on her own or breathe without a hole in her windpipe. About 77 square inches of tissue were transplanted from the donor,” it further described the details of the medical marvel. The patient, however, must take lifetime immunosuppressive drugs, also called antirejection drugs, which do not guarantee success. The transplant team said that in case of failure, it would replace the part with a skin graft taken from her own body.
Dr. Bohdan Pomahac, a Brigham and Women’s Hospital surgeon praised the recent medical development. “There are patients who can benefit tremendously from this. It’s great that it happened,” he said.
Leading bioethicist Arthur Caplan of the University of Pennsylvania withheld judgment on the Cleveland transplant amid grave concerns on the post-operation results. “The biggest ethical problem is dealing with failure — if your face rejects. It would be a living hell. If your face is falling off and you can’t eat and you can’t breathe and you’re suffering in a terrible manner that can’t be reversed, you need to put on the table assistance in dying. There are patients who can benefit tremendously from this. It’s great that it happened,” he said.
Dr Alex Clarke, of the Royal Free Hospital had praised the Clinic for its contribution to medicine. “It is a real step forward for people who have severe disfigurement and this operation has been done by a team who have really prepared and worked towards this for a number of years. These transplants have proven that the technical difficulties can be overcome and psychologically the patients are doing well. They have all have reacted positively and have begun to do things they were not able to before. All the things people thought were barriers to this kind of operations have been overcome,” she said.
The first partial face transplant surgery on a living human was performed on Isabelle Dinoire on November 27 2005, when she was 38, by Professor Bernard Devauchelle, assisted by Professor Jean-Michel Dubernard in Amiens, France. Her Labrador dog mauled her in May 2005. A triangle of face tissue including the nose and mouth was taken from a brain-dead female donor and grafted onto the patient. Scientists elsewhere have performed scalp and ear transplants. However, the claim is the first for a mouth and nose transplant. Experts say the mouth and nose are the most difficult parts of the face to transplant.
In 2004, the same Cleveland Clinic, became the first institution to approve this surgery and test it on cadavers. In October 2006, surgeon Peter Butler at London‘s Royal Free Hospital in the UK was given permission by the NHS ethics board to carry out a full face transplant. His team will select four adult patients (children cannot be selected due to concerns over consent), with operations being carried out at six month intervals. In March 2008, the treatment of 30-year-old neurofibromatosis victim Pascal Coler of France ended after having received what his doctors call the worlds first successful full face transplant.
Ethical concerns, psychological impact, problems relating to immunosuppression and consequences of technical failure have prevented teams from performing face transplant operations in the past, even though it has been technically possible to carry out such procedures for years.
Mr Iain Hutchison, of Barts and the London Hospital, warned of several problems with face transplants, such as blood vessels in the donated tissue clotting and immunosuppressants failing or increasing the patient’s risk of cancer. He also pointed out ethical issues with the fact that the procedure requires a “beating heart donor”. The transplant is carried out while the donor is brain dead, but still alive by use of a ventilator.
According to Stephen Wigmore, chair of British Transplantation Society’s ethics committee, it is unknown to what extent facial expressions will function in the long term. He said that it is not certain whether a patient could be left worse off in the case of a face transplant failing.
Mr Michael Earley, a member of the Royal College of Surgeon‘s facial transplantation working party, commented that if successful, the transplant would be “a major breakthrough in facial reconstruction” and “a major step forward for the facially disfigured.”
In Wednesday’s conference, Siemionow said “we know that there are so many patients there in their homes where they are hiding from society because they are afraid to walk to the grocery stores, they are afraid to go the the street.” “Our patient was called names and was humiliated. We very much hope that for this very special group of patients there is a hope that someday they will be able to go comfortably from their houses and enjoy the things we take for granted,” she added.
In response to the medical breakthrough, a British medical group led by Royal Free Hospital’s lead surgeon Dr Peter Butler, said they will finish the world’s first full face transplant within a year. “We hope to make an announcement about a full-face operation in the next 12 months. This latest operation shows how facial transplantation can help a particular group of the most severely facially injured people. These are people who would otherwise live a terrible twilight life, shut away from public gaze,” he said.

On Saturday the Pentagon confirmed the death of well-known Al Qaeda militant leader Qari Yasin. Yasin’s death was the result of a U.S. counter-terrorism airstrike this month on March 19 in Afghanistan. In 2008 Qari Yasin plotted and executed a bombing on the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad, killing at least 40 innocent civilians and wounding 250. Later in 2009, the ‘mastermind’ attacked a bus carrying the Sri Lankan cricket team, killing six Pakistani policemen, two civilians and injured six members of the cricket team.
U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis expressed in a statement, “the death of Qari Yasin is evidence that terrorists who defame Islam and deliberately target innocent people will not escape justice.” According to the Long War Journal, Pakistani Taliban spokesman Mohammad Khurasani characterizes Yasin “as one of the greatest trainers of explosives and electronics in the fields of Jihad.” It has become clear to U.S. military forces that the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) tactic of using innocent civilians as “human shields” has increased difficulty and risk in their work.
The Donald Trump administration is currently under fire with the increase of civilian casualties as a result of the increased drone strikes across Iraq and Syria. Airwars is a project for tracking civilian deaths as a result of drone attacks. The non-profit organisation estimates that the U.S. has caused close to 1000 civilian deaths in only one month. Yasin’s death in the Paktika province southeast of Afghanistan shows that the groups have discovered sanctuaries in this area while surrounding states demand that they are shut down.

If you’ve lived in your home any length of time, you probably have considered doing some remodeling. In fact, the National Association of Home Builders estimates that we will spend nearly $240 billion over the next year in remodeling projects. That’s a lot of paint (not to mention nails, screws, plywood, tile, etc.)!
A recent article published in PARADE suggested 5 quick, easy, and cheap ideas for giving your house that look of a major remodeling:
1. Add a new backsplash in the kitchen. This can make you kitchen have a new look for a minimum investment.
2. Add glass in the bathroom. It creates a look of more space by opening up the tub/shower area.

3. Go outside. A new barbecue grill can liven up the forgotten square footage of your home.
4. Add or change lighting. A lighting professional can give some great ideas here.
5. Make-over you closets. Lots of kits and ideas are available at your local retailer.
These are just a few of the many ideas which you can implement to give your home a remodeled look. By taking the time to visit a few of the local retailers (box stores and specialty stores), you can come up with some great ideas. Also, a visit to your local home show is a great source for generating ideas. And, more ideas can be found at

If you are considering selling your home, a minor remodeling job can be a great investment. While doing a major remodel might get you a small increase in your selling price, you definitely will get better value from a small job than from a major remodel. Remember, just because you like a peach colored paint in the kitchen, does not mean a prospective buyer will. If you do paint or add something else with color, stick with neutral tones and smaller jobs. You will get more bang for you buck.
Naturally, doing the project yourself will save additional money. If you or someone in your household has the time, energy and talent to tackle the job, great. If you need additional tools (tile cutters, paint sprayers, etc.) be sure to check with your local store which may have tools and equipment to rent. Some of these outlets also offer seminars and classes which can be very helpful in giving you the confidence to tackle your project yourself.
But if you are not a do-it-your-self type of person, consider hiring a contractor who specializes in small jobs. A good contractor can also be a great source for new ideas. Enjoy your newly remodeled home!

The new version of Apple Inc.’s tablet computing device, the iPad 2, has gone on sale in the United States at Apple Stores and a number of other retailers (including Wal-Mart, Target, Sam’s Club, Best Buy, Verizon, and AT&T), a shift from last year’s launch which was only available through Apple’s stores. The product will go on sale internationally on March 25.
The device was announced on March 2 at an event at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, California. CEO Steve Jobs emerged from sick leave to make the announcement.
The iPad 2 has an all-new design and has several improvements over the original iPad. The device runs on a dual-core Apple A5 CPU. According to Jobs, the CPU’s new dual-core capability enhances multitasking and doubles the processing speed. Apple additionally introduced a magnetic ‘Smart Cover’ accessory that snaps to the front screen of the device along with several new apps ported from the Mac OS X operating system and the iPhone. These include iMovie, GarageBand, and Photo Booth. The new iPad introduces front and rear cameras which enable FaceTime and video. The new tablet is fifteen percent lighter and 33 percent thinner than the previous version—thinner than an iPhone 4—and has beveled edges. It is available in black and white and continues to be capable of ten hours of battery life on a single charge.
The announcement came after months of rumors about the successor to the original iPad. Competitors have designed tablets to compete with the iPad, such as Motorola’s Xoom powered by the Android operating system. Apple, who normally follows a yearly product cycle, has pressed its iPad successor into the marketplace almost a full month earlier than usual.
Tablet computers have existed for years but, until recently, have not been popular amongst consumers. Tablet sales totaled 90,000 in 2009. Apple sold nearly fifteen million iPads worldwide in 2010, generating US$2 billion in revenue within three months. In 2010, Apple held a 75% share of the tablet computer market. According to one analyst, even with competition, iPads will still make up at least 20 million of the more than 24 million tablet computers sold in the United States in 2011. An analyst predicted ‘conservatively’ that 35 million iPad 2s will be sold in 2011. One analyst credits Apple’s enormous App Store for the iPad’s continued domination. Apple also holds an advantage in price over other tablets, many of which are still first generation devices. An analyst at J.P. Morgan predicts an overabundance of tablets caused by faltering demand. This could have drastic effects on competitors.
The iPad connects to the Internet over Wi-Fi and 3G models of the new device can connect to the wireless networks of AT&T or Verizon Wireless. The iPad 2 will start at US$499—the same starting price of the original iPad. The equivalent model of the original iPad has been reduced to US$399.
