How to Choose the Best Dog Insurance Company
by
Darrin Swain
You never know what\’s going to befall your dog. If you have to take him to an expensive vet, then you\’ll be glad you had the foresight to get insurance. Here are a few things you need to look at when trying to find the best dog insurance company.
Experience
First and foremost, you will want to see how long the company has been during business. As with most things, the more experienced the company is, the better. This isn\’t always the case though, as bigger companies aren\’t always the best choice.
License
Before you look at anything, you need to make sure that the company is licensed to do business in your state. You may want to think about the future too. If you ever plan to move and take your dog with you, the company will need to be licensed in that state as well.

Cost
Of course you\’ll definitely want to take a look at the costs of getting insurance for your dog. Needless to say, cheaper plans aren\’t always the way to go. Conversely, you may not necessarily need the most expensive plan on the market either. Consider your dog\’s situation and your budget. Just like with other types of insurance, be prepared for premium hikes in the future too. They will especially increase as your dog gets older.
When looking at the fine details of your dog insurance policy, make sure that you pay attention to the payout limit. This is the maximum amount that the company will pay for any one claim. If you have a payout limit of $1,000 and a vet bill of $4,500, you\’ll have to make up the difference.
Discounts
The best dog insurance company will offer discounts of some sort. One of the most common is for owners of multiple pets. If you cover all of them with one company, you could stand to save quite a bit of money.
Claims
When looking to get insurance for your dog, make sure that you take the claims process into account. You\’ll want it to go as smoothly as possible. Some companies require you to pay the vet the entire bill, then wait for them to pay you the money back.
Others make you get the vet fill out forms as part of the claims process. Insurance companies sometimes restrict the vet that you can take your dog to. If you take him to one that\’s out-of-network, you\’ll have to pay a higher cost.
Wellness
You don\’t only need to go to the vet when there\’s something wrong. Your dog needs to see the vet at least once a year for a wellness exam anyway. Since this is highly recommended, then look for a dog insurance policy that will cover preventative care. It may not cover all areas such as dental cleanings, vaccinations, and heartworm medication.
Having insurance for your dog would certainly come in handy if something major unexpectedly popped up. If you do decide to get it, then keep these tips in mind so that you can find the best dog insurance company.
You are probably aware that there are many potential health problems that can affect your dog. That\’s why you should stop by common-dog-diseases.com today to read up on conditions such as
bowel disease in dogs

Annabel Goldie, Scottish Conservative Party leader from 2005 to 2011, has announced she will stand down as an MSP at the next elections in 2016. Goldie, who has been an MSP for the West Scotland (previously West of Scotland) electoral region since the Scottish Parliament’s formation in 1999, said she intends to focus on her role in the House of Lords, where she has been a peer since 2013.File:Annabel Goldie.jpg
In a statement today, Goldie said leading the party was an “enormous honour” for her. She also said: “It has afforded me both satisfaction and pleasure to serve my constituents and to serve the parliament and I will look back with great happiness at my time as an MSP. I am grateful to friends and colleagues from all parties for their support. Sometimes we found common ground, sometimes we disagreed but never I hope with rancour nor disrespect. Politics is a rough trade but we have built a strong parliament in Scotland of which we can all be rightly proud.” She said because of Ruth Davidson, her successor as Scottish Conservative leader, the party is now “in fine fettle and stands a great chance of making real progress in the years ahead,” concluding by saying: “I look forward to continuing to work as part of that effort in the House of Lords in the years to come.”
Davidson responded to the news by calling Goldie an “unstoppable force”, adding: “She has been an inspiration to a whole generation of Scottish Conservatives, and she has been a tremendous mentor, support and friend to me. In Holyrood, she has fostered both affection and respect from all members – regardless of their political affiliation – and her retirement from the Scottish Parliament will leave an Annabel-sized hole which won’t ever quite be filled. She is unique.” Meanwhile, David Cameron, UK Conservative leader and UK Prime Minister, said: “Annabel is one of those rare breeds in Scottish politics, somebody known by her first name alone. When she was Scottish Conservative leader, I valued her sage advice. She has been a towering strength to our party in Scotland, a doughty debater in the TV studios and Scottish Parliament and has one of the sharpest wits around. I wish her a long and happy retirement after 17 years unstinting service at Holyrood – but look forward to seeing her on the red benches of the Lords for years to come.”

Goldie, the Scottish Conservatives’ first ever female leader, was elected unopposed. She took up the role in the aftermath of David McLetchie’s resignation from the role in an expenses usage controversy and subsequent resignation of Brian Monteith from his Conservative whip role in the Scottish Parliament for briefing the media against him. Meanwhile, as Scottish Conservatives won 18 seats in the Scottish Parliament in 1999 and 2003, the party had been less successful in UK general elections in Scotland; Conservatives went up from zero out of a possible 72 UK MPs in Scotland in 1997 to one in 2001. This led to Goldie remarking in her inaugural speech in 2005 that: “The wheels are back on the wagon – and I’m the nag hitched up to tow it.” She also said: “The party is still way ahead of where it was in 1997. And my first task is to take it forward to 2007.” However, under Goldie’s leadership, the number of seats the Scottish Conservatives won in the Scottish Parliament slightly decreased from 18 in 2003 to 17 in 2007 and to 15 in 2011. At the same time, the number of Conservative MPs stood at one out of a possible 59 after the 2010 UK general election.
In the aforementioned 2005 speech, she also said the party could be trusted with devolution in Scotland, adding: “making devolution work better means real devolution: not the lumbering and cripplingly expensive array of government departments, government advisers, consultants, quangos, quasi-quangos and agencies with all their expensive appendages, but devolving down to people and their communities, their right to make their own decisions about their lives, how for example they procure healthcare and how they educate their children.” Goldie would go on to sit on the advisory board for the Smith Commission, which was set up to examine which further political powers should be devolved to Scotland following the 2014 Scottish independence referendum. More recently, Goldie supported a reduction in the voting age for Scottish Parliament elections from 18 to 16 in a vote earlier this month, commenting: “I think it is an opportunity for them to continue their high level of engagement in topical affairs that we saw with the independence referendum.”
Goldie, a member of the Salvation Army’s West of Scotland Advisory Board and a Church of Scotland elder, is not the only Scottish Conservative MSP intending to stand down in 2016. Mary Scanlon, Gavin Brown, Alex Fergusson and Nanette Milne all reportedly intend to leave the Scottish Parliament next year.

The inflation rate in Ireland, as measured by the Central Statistics Office (CSO), edged upwards to hit a five month high in May at 2.4%. This represents a 0.2% rise on the previous month when the rate stood at 2.2%.
The major contributors to the rise were increased transportation, healthcare, and education costs. In April the EU25 average rate of inflation was 2.1%, with Latvia having the highest rate at 7.1% and Sweden the lowest at 0.4%.
Despite the increase in the rate, Irish inflation remains very low – having hit 7% during 2000 and remaining around the 5% until the beginning of 2003. Another major factor easing any worries about the increase is Ireland’s very strong GDP growth – expected to be around 5.5% this year
On an annual basis the cost of footwear and clothing have fallen by 2.7% whilst energy costs have soared by 10.4%. The cost of food, furniture, and communications also fell over the last 12 months.
The Consumer Price Index is made up of over 55,000 prices consisting of 613 headings which cover over 1,000 different items.

Hundreds of thousands of British public sector workers went on strike across the country yesterday to protest planned changes to pensions. As industrial action swept the country, half of all schools were hit when teachers walked out, thousands of emergency service responders did not arrive at work, and there were warnings of immigration delays at Heathrow airport.
Police arrested 26 people as protesters picketed on a march in London, and riot police kettled demonstrators as clashes broke out. Reports vary, but it is thought that up to half of British state schools have been affected as employees did not turn up to work.
Mark Serwotka, the leader of the Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS), said the strikes would serve as a “wake-up call” to the coalition government. “It’s a very, very clear signal to the government that they have been rumbled,” Serwotka said. “This is not about pensions, this is about making public sector workers pay for the economic problems, and we are determined to keep going until they change direction.”
Government officials condemned the strike and said the planned changes to pensions, which would see teachers work until age 68 and get less from their pensions, were “fair to taxpayers” as Britain attempts to deal with a large budget deficit. A spokesperson for Downing Street insisted the strike was having a “minimal” impact and said the turnout suggested many public sector workers supported the pension changes.
Christine Blower, the general secretary of one of the striking unions, the National Union of Teachers (NUT), said the strike demonstrated “the anger and distress that this government is causing teachers.” She said the “unjustified attacks” on the pensions of teachers “are nothing short of disgraceful.” Speaking on BBC television programme Question Time, she added: “Much of this has already been imposed on teachers without negotiation, and when we say there are talks going on it’s perfectly true that the government is talking but it isn’t actually listening.”
But despite government claims that the strike was having little impact, 5,679 schools were closed and another 4,999 were affected as teachers did not turn up for work. Michael Gove, the education secretary attacked the walkouts as “disappointing and unnecessary”. Thousands of staff handling emergency 999 calls also striked and pickets were held outside courts as members of the PCS walked out in protest.

This is not about pensions, this is about making public sector workers pay for the economic problems, and we are determined to keep going until they change direction. |
|
|
Francis Maude, the cabinet office minister, also maintained that the strikes were wrong and said the low number of people walking out showed many supported the government’s plans. “What today has shown is that the vast majority of hard-working public sector employees do not support today’s premature strike and have come into work today,” he said.
Senior Labour party figures including Ed Miliband, Tessa Jowell and John Denham said the strikes were unjustified until negotiations with the government had concluded. Mary Bousted of the NUT criticised Labour’s lack of support for the striking workers: “The response of Ed Miliband has been a disgrace – he should be ashamed of himself. If our strike is a mistake, what has he done to oppose this devastating attack on our pensions? If the opposition will not defend our pensions, we will.”
A largely peaceful march by 30,000 protesters took place through London, and the atmosphere was reported to be largely peaceful, but Metropolitan Police officials said 26 people had been arrested. At a meeting in Westminister, many left wing figures attacked the government plans. Ken Livingstone, a former mayor of London who is running for the job again next year, said the coalition government had “mishandled” the issue of pensions. “The government must end its attacks and negotiate on the core issues under contention,” he added.
The health benefits of a Forward Sloping Seat for an Ergonomic Computer Chair
by
kneelsit
One of the pioneers in proposing the benefits of a forward-sloping seat was Danish surgeon Dr. A.C. Mandal. He had found that the only way he could remain seated without incurring backpain was to lean forward on the front legs of his chair. He also observed that many school children did the same thing when trying to ease back pain brought on by poorly designed school furniture.
Mandal recommended that the seat pan should slope forward by 15. When we take up this position our lumbar spine does not need to flatten out to assume the seated posture and our hips and trunk are at the optimum position of balance for the muscles.
By tilting your seat forward you alter your centre of gravity from behind the sitting bones (ischial tuberosity) to directly above them. As a result your muscles do not have to tense up or contract to maintain an erect posture. At the same time the lumbar curve ( or lordosis) is restored and pressure on your discs is reduced.
A variation on the forward-tilt seat has been produced which copies the shape of a saddle. This has the effect of opening out the thighs and giving more stability to the pelvis. It also restores some lordosis to the lumbar spine. There are versions of this type of seat on the market which are popular with some people. One drawback of this type of seat, however, is that your desk has to be set up much higher to allow for the legs to occupy the saddle position.
Some of the more common objections to early versions of the sloping seat were:-
You tended to slide forward.
Too much weight was placed on the feet.
Your clothes tended to ‘ruck up’..
Balans Chair:
The Balans was one of the first forward-sloping chairs in mass production to incorporate Mandal’s suggestions – using a knee rest to prevent slipping forward.
Most of the weight is taken on the knees and while this reduces pressure on the discs, the muscles had to work harder to maintain an erect posture since there is no backrest. As your muscles become tired there is a natural tendency to slump.
In addition to these problems your knees and shins can become quite sore after a time since there is no provision for changing the knee position. Getting in and out of the chair is somewhat difficult because of interference from the central pillar.
Despite the various drawbacks mentioned, however, many thousands of these chairs were sold because of the obvious relief given to the discs through the forward-sloping seat taking pressure off the spine.
Kneelsit balance chair
When you allow the seat pan to tilt forward your pelvis rotates forward, this posture produces the least amount of stress on muscles, tendons and discs, since your spine is correctly aligned.
It also pulls the chest out, increases lung capacity and makes breathing easier as well as improving the working of the heart and blood circulation; it also allows you an open abdomen, which aids digestion.
When your pelvis is tilted forward your lumbar spine curves naturally and the rest of your spine follows. This is the ideal posture when working upright – as at a computer. When you have a backrest – as in the Kneelsit chair – this backward tilt can also be used to relax the spine and take pressure off your disks and muscles, for example when you are reading or just chatting.
The real secret, however, to maintaining a healthy spine is to have a chair which allows free-flowing, natural movement between both forward and backward tilts. This sets up a continuous “pumping action” which feeds and nourishes the cells of your spinal discs, exercises your back muscles and allows you to sit for hours on end with very little discomfort.

Finland and Canada — The Northern European country of Finland was named among the world’s most healthy, according to an investigation by the London-based newspaper, The Guardian. According to health experts, Finland joins Canada as having the distinction of being home to the lowest percentage of “couch potato” citizens among developed nations.
Pekka Puska, Director of Finland’s National Institute of Public Health claimed that in the 1970s, the country held the world record for heart disease. “Finnish men used to say that vegetables were for rabbits and not for men,” he said, “and the staple foods were bread and butter, fatty meat and full-fat milk!”
When the Finnish government found out the figures in the 1970s, it began a campaign to make a healthier nation. The number of males dying of heart problems has, over the past 35 years, decreased by 65 percent, and lung cancer deaths have also dropped dramatically.
Other nations are now considering using similar tactics as the Finnish government to make their own countries more healthy, but some say it is yet another example of a “nanny state.”
Gulan’s Space Projections
by

Space Projections, the most recent album by Gulan, has gone beyond the hope of all diehard Gulan fans. This in itself is a big success, for there are several who believe Cassiopeia, his earlier album, as the ultimate ambient music phenomenon. The earlier albums Antigravitation and Sphere, in addition to Cassiopeia sure a large number of music fans about his exclusive capability to generate space music by coming together various musical genres. If anyone disbelief his capability till date, Space Projections would erase such uncertainties. This 55-minute album comprising of nine tracks is his most excellent work so far.
While Gulan’s music is an uncommon and tale combination of music, the traits of the musician are also exceptional. The music industry and his fans love hype and trivia. In Gulan’s case, not much is recognized about him apart from essential information about his nationality and age. For those who are interested, he was born in Latvia in 1974. His real name is Andrei Gulaikin. Gulaikin was shortened to Gulan as the raw music ability of the man begins to convey itself in different types of space music. Gulan is not a showman or a man who look for exposure. He is involved in try out with and make new types of music in his music studio in Latvia called Gulan Music Studios.
Space Projections: The New Album
Many musical proficients have marked threads of influence of Klause Schulze, Michael Stearns, and Robert Rich in Gulan’s music. In general, his music is a spectacular and tale mixture of space music. This face of his music is very much evident in Space Projections, as well. In a sense, Space Projections begin where Cassiopeia and Sphere finish
As is the norm with space music albums, this album is packaged with a creatively designed cover that can simply locate its way to an art gallery. The album begins with three versions of the title track: Space Projections 1, Space Projections 2, and Space Projections 3. The first one is the most excellent. The track is splendid with enjoyable sounds and new tunes and shows you why Gulan is regarded as a master of blending electronic sounds. Maybe this mastery can be recognized to his influential years which he spent in fiddling, playing, and experimenting with electronic synthesizers.
The subsequently three tracks, Basic Algorithm, Floating in Space, and The Black Hole, are also refreshingly fresh. These tracks raise you to a peaceful feel of meditation and a cosmic condition of brain. You can present yourself to the magnetic power of music and let the vibrant textures of space music capture.
The outstanding three tracks, Heavenly Lights, Airway 7, and Good Bye, remind you of Gulan’s earlier tracks, particularly those rhythmic numbers in Cassiopeia. The final one, suitably called Good Bye, is a remix. These tracks are masterly creations of ambient music of such high-class that it would be tough for a space music admirer to not pay attention to them repeatedly.

Sweden’s first royal wedding since 1976 took place Saturday when Crown Princess Victoria, 32, married her long-time boyfriend and former personal trainer, Daniel Westling, 36. The ceremony took place at Stockholm Cathedral.
Over 1,200 guests, including many rulers, politicians, royals and other dignitaries from across the world, attended the wedding, which cost an estimated 20 million Swedish kronor. Victoria wore a wedding dress with five-metre long train designed by Pär Engsheden. She wore the same crown that her mother, Queen Silvia, wore on her wedding day 34 years previously, also on June 19. Victoria’s father, King Carl XVI Gustaf, walked Victoria down the aisle, which was deemed untraditional by many. In Sweden, the bride and groom usually walk down the aisle together, emphasising the country’s views on equality. Victoria met with Daniel half-way to the altar, where they exchanged brief kisses, and, to the sounds of the wedding march, made their way to the the silver altar. She was followed by ten bridesmaids. The couple both had tears in their eyes as they said their vows, and apart from fumbling when they exchanged rings, the ceremony went smoothly.
Following the ceremony, the couple headed a fast-paced procession through central Stockholm on a horse-drawn carriage, flanked by police and security. Up to 500,000 people are thought to have lined the streets. They then boarded the Vasaorden, the same royal barge Victoria’s parents used in their wedding, and traveled through Stockholm’s waters, accompanied by flyover of 18 fighter jets near the end of the procession. A wedding banquet followed in the in the Hall of State of the Royal Palace.
Controversy has surrounded the engagement and wedding between the Crown Princess and Westling, a “commoner”. Victoria met Westling as she was recovering from bulemia in 2002. He owned a chain of gymnasiums and was brought in to help bring Victoria back to full health. Westling was raised in a middle-class family in Ockelbo, in central Sweden. His father managed a social services centre, and his mother worked in a post office. When the relationship was made public, Westling was mocked as an outsider and the king was reportedly horrified at the thought of his daughter marrying a “commoner”, even though he did so when he married Silvia. Last year, Westling underwent transplant surgery for a congenital kidney disorder. The Swedish public have been assured that he will be able to have children and that his illness will not be passed on to his offspring.
Westling underwent years of training to prepare for his new role in the royal family, including lessons in etiquette, elocution, and multi-lingual small talk; and a makeover that saw his hair being cropped short, and his plain-looking glasses and clothes being replaced by designer-wear.
Upon marrying the Crown Princess, Westling took his wife’s ducal title and is granted the style “His Royal Highness”. He is now known as HRH Prince Daniel, Duke of Västergötland. He also has his own coat-of-arms and monogram. When Victoria assumes the throne and becomes Queen, Daniel will not become King, but assume a supportive role, similar to that of Prince Phillip, the husband of the United Kingdom’s Queen Elizabeth II.

The trial began today for a Pennsylvania state trooper accused of killing his girlfriend’s estranged husband.
Kevin Foley, 43, is accused of cutting the throat of John Yelenic, a dentist who was in the final stages of finalizing a divorce from his wife, Michele. According to prosecutors, Foley “loathed Dr. Yelenic” so much that he asked another fellow trooper to help him commit the alleged murder, which occurred in Yelenic’s Blairsville home.
Deputy Attorney General Anthony Krastek told an Indiana County jury that Foley also prayed Yelenic would die, and spread false rumors that Yelenic molested his adopted son.
“You will see Kevin Foley has the motive, the opportunity and the ability to commit this crime, almost to the exclusion of anybody else,” Krastek said.
Foley’s defense attorney, Jeffrey Monzo, said during opening statements that DNA evidence was not conclusive. Monzo admitted to the jury that Foley did not like Yelenic, but said that does not mean he murdered him.
“Kevin Foley is innocent,” he said.
Prosecutors said they could call as many as 70 witnesses to try and prove Foley wanted Yelenic to die. The trial, at the Indiana County Courthouse, is expected to last about three weeks.
Foley, who is on unpaid suspension from the Pennsylvania State Police, is charged with criminal homicide. The jury has the option of convicting him of first-degree murder, which could put Foley in prison for life without parole, or of a lesser degree charge, like manslaughter.
John Yelenic was found dead in his home on April 13, 2006, one day before he was planning on signing his divorce papers. Prosecutors said Foley killed Yelenic after going to the dentist’s house to confront him over the terms of the divorce. Prosecutors claim Foley slashed Yelenic several times with a knife and pushed his head through a small window, causing a further gash on his neck. Yelenic bled to death.
Foley had been living with Michele Yelenic for two years at the time of the alleged homicide. Krastek said Michele also helped perpetuate rumors that Dr. Yelenic molested their son. John and Michele Yelenic had been separated in 2002. Michele Yelenic stood to collect Dr. Yelenic’s estate and a $1 million life insurance policy, and could lose about $2,500 a month in support if the divorce was finalized, a Pennsylvania grand jury previously determined.
Michele Yelenic is expected to testify that Foley was home with her when the alleged murder occurred. Krastek told the jury DNA under Yelenic’s fingerprints will ultimately link him to the murder, as will bloody shoe prints found at the crime scene that match athletic shoes Foley is known to wear.
Monzo also said authorities have failed to investigate several other suspects, including Yelenic’s neighbor. Monzo said Yelenic was on very friendly terms with the neighbor’s wife, which could have given him a motive to commit the murder.
Prior to the trial, Foley’s defense attorneys unsuccessfully sought a change of venue because an overwhelming majority of the jury pool was familiar with the allegations. The change was denied when jurors insisted they had not formed an opinion about the charges.
