You could buy a watch and wear it for fashion or function or both. Finding one is easy but picking that one from the thousands available could demand a little more than how it looks on your wrist or how many diamond studs it has. Read on to find out a smart way to choose one.
Why do you buy a watch?
Well, the obvious answer that pops in your mind is ‘to keep time’. People buy a watch for themselves or to gift it to their special someone or to others. At times they also buy a watch for its looks or for its features and so on. Watches are worn greatly for fashion today, and hence, the market is flooded by hundreds of watch brands. You can go for a flashy timepiece with gold and diamond studs and wear it as jewelry or a sober one that provides a specific function that serves you perfectly. There are also pieces that have both function and beauty.
Fashion houses and jewelry designers also make fashionable and luxurious timepieces. You can find them at their respective outlets, for instance, popular fashion brands such as Gucci, Diesel, Police, Chanel, Calvin Klein, DKNY, Hugo Boss, Guess, Reebok etc., make watches. However, apart from the looks of the watch, if it is the function and real timekeeping that you look for in a watch, then you go for the original watchmakers. Some popular brands you find are Citizen, Casio, Seiko, Timex etc.

You can buy a watch in various other ways, one is by the watch type. Some prefer a pocket watch over a wrist watch while another would go for a digital one. Watches are also categorized by their movements such as automatic and mechanical (wind up). Some still go for the material, choosing from plastic, silver, gold, titanium or ceramic watches. These are just ways of buying a watch based on personal choice.
The professional tick?
There’s yet another way of buying a watch, and one of the most sensible ways too. It is to buy it based on your profession. What better way to keep time than to wear a time machine that is designed to work as per your profession? This is not a new idea, watches by profession such as pilot watches, mariner watches etc., have been around for a long time, but a lot of folks tend to oversee the value it provides.
Moreover, there are other types of watches by profession, there are engineering watches, security watches and communications watches with further more specific sub categories. Some include boiler and electrical, intercom, and auxiliary watches for engineering; special piracy-related watches and roving patrol watches for security; radio and signal bridge watches for communications and so on. You can also find sports watches, nurses fob watches, tactical action officer watches and more.
Advantages of wearing a watch by profession
Wearing a watch that is specific to your profession has various advantages. For instance, some watch brands with aviation heritage including Breitling, Longines, Blancpain, Breuget and others have unique dials, movements, or cases that are designed specially for aviation. Contemporary aviation watches also typically have hi-tech features incorporated. One such feature is the flight computer that can calculate time, speed, distance and also fuel consumption, nautical mile conversions, metric to English conversions and more that directly helps the pilot do his job.
Similarly, diver watches have a large dial, luminous markers and hands, water resistant case and so on, that will allow the diver to keep time while underwater. Sports watches are made to serve sportsmen while in competition or training. You can also wear them during outdoor activities. There is no lack of hi-tech features in watches today. Based on your purpose, you can choose from watches with GPS enabled, chronograph incorporated, altitude alarm, speed measurement, distance measurement, auto pause or split and many more features.
So, the next time you buy a watch, you could pause and ponder a little, and make your next watch do more than just tell the time. A brief online research will inform you about the type of watch you want or should get. For an assured precision of timekeeping you could get a Swiss luxury watch. A genuine Swiss technology watch will give you both beauty and function for as long as you wear it.

The closure of a mathematics summer camp in ?irince, ?zmir, Turkey by Turkish authorities has drawn scorn from scientists around the world.
Professor Alexandre Borovik, who organized some of the opposition, said “We are shocked to learn that the Summer School of Mathematics initiated by Professor Ali Nesin was shut down by local authorities. We found it surprising that such an esteemed mathematician such as Professor Nesin needs a specific permit each time he wants to teach math, as we saw that one of the reasons for shutting the camp down was the lack of such a permit, especially considering how this contradicts the fact that the summer schools organized every year by Professor Nesin are sponsored by The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜB?TAK), Turkish Mathematics Association and many respected Turkish universities.”
The school was reopened on August 10, 2007; however, Ali Nesin still faces charges under Turkish criminal code article TCK 263, which reads “Persons who open or run illegal educational institutions can be jailed from 3 months to 1 year.”
Ali Nesin is the son of the famous Turkish humorist Aziz Nesin.

A sparkling wood or hardwood floors gives style and elegance to your home’s interior design and may be a big selling point for a house in the marketplace. Refinishing an old and worn floor is a method to bring back the floor’s original gloss and also stand out.
Wood flooring can be stunning and striking when they’re in excellent shape. But with time, even one of the most sturdy hardwood flooring can turn out to be lifeless and dingy. Many years of put on and rip can leave unattractive nicks and marks too. Refinishing wooden flooring is often the only option.
Hardwood floors add more fabulous looking elegance or folksy charisma to a house, depending on the form of wood, design and situation. Refinishing to get rid of ground-in dirt whilst sanding out dents and marks can easily bring back this extremely obvious section of your interior decor.

Hardwood floor refinishing prices hinge on a number of components. The amount of harm to the wooden flooring will be the main issue that has impact on the price of wood floor refinishing. A little bit damaged flooring could be refurbished with screening and covering, that is an inexpensive method. Nevertheless, you could possibly must select complete refinishing if the flooring will show indicators of unadorned damage. In this case, price to refinish wood floorings can increase a lot more.
The common price of refinishing a wood floor can differ widely. Generally the cost of refinishing a wood floor runs anyplace from $1.25 to over $4.00 per sq. ft. when getting a expert, labor expenses alone typical $3.00 to $3.50 per square foot. The general price tag will depend on several components.
Really should employ a professional to total the function for you personally though it can be going to boost the price, nevertheless it is not suggested to sand and refinish your floors in your own unless of you have knowledge doing it.
The present condition with the floor can tremendously affect price. Typically structural repairs should be made prior to refinishing, and that may get really costly. If the floor is covered by other flooring, for example carpet or linoleum, hiring somebody to get rid of the old flooring will certainly enhance the cost as well. A lot of homeowners choose to perform this chore themselves, however it is actually a dirty and time consuming job.
Refinishing your hardwood floors on your own is going to take a lot of time and effort. What you’re going to find is that you can do it yourself, but it’s going to cost you a lot of money, as well as time. The problem here is that if you screw up with the sanding process, or even the staining process, you can make the floors look a lot worse than what they were in the first place. This is why it may be best to hire a company that is going to be able to help you in the long haul. While they may be a few dollars more, it’s going to be well worth it.

A court in Xinyu, China, has sentenced three anti-corruption activists to prison for causing public disturbance. Wei Zhongping and Liu Ping received a prison sentence of six-and-a-half years under charges of “using evil religion to sabotage law enforcement” and “picking fights and provoking trouble”. A third activist Li Sihua was also convicted for the last charge.
The three activists, who were associated members of the New Citizen’s Movement, were arrested last year during an anti-corruption protest that urged government officials to reveal their earnings. Zhou Ze, Li’s Lawyer, told the AFP that an opportunity to appeal the charges had been discarded as pointless as “The ruling in an appeal is already decided.” “The charges against these activists were preposterous from the very beginning,” said William Nee, researcher for Amnesty International. The accused stood trial at a high security court late last year where, according to the BBC, their lawyers were concerned about serious procedural problems. “The harsh sentences are just the latest moves in the politically motivated crackdown on the New Citizens Movement,” Nee said later in an emailed statement.
Chinese Prime Minster Xi Jinping launched an initiative to crackdown on corruption after his appointment in 2012, however grassroots campaigns and activists have also been targeted with this drive. Several activists and rights lawyers have been detained for “disturbing the public order”. Party leaders have sought to rid the government of corruption facing concerns that the widespread organisation of protests may lead to a looser grip on political control. Xu Zhiyong, a founder of the New Citizens Movement, was sentenced to a four-year jail sentence in April. Several other Beijing-based participants will also serve jail terms for disrupting the public order.

2020 Melbourne Lord Mayor candidate Wayne Tseng answered some questions about his campaign for the upcoming election from Wikinews. The Lord Mayor election in the Australian city is scheduled to take place this week.
Tseng runs a firm called eTranslate, which helps software developers to make the software available to the users. In the candidate’s questionnaire, Tseng said eTranslate had led to him working with all three tiers of the government. He previously belonged to the Australian Liberal Party, but has left since then, to run for mayorship as an independent candidate.
Tseng is of Chinese descent, having moved to Australia with his parents from Vietnam. Graduated in Brisbane, Tseng received his PhD in Melbourne and has been living in the city, he told Wikinews. Tseng also formed Chinese Precinct Chamber of Commerce, an organisation responsible for many “community bond building initiatives”, the Lord Mayor candidate told Wikinews.
Tseng discussed his plans for leading Melbourne, recovering from COVID-19, and “Democracy 2.0” to ensure concerns of minorities in the city were also heard. Tseng also focused on the importance of the multi-culture aspect and talked about making Melbourne the capital of the aboriginals. Tseng also explained why he thinks Melbourne is poised to be a world city by 2030.
Tseng’s deputy Lord Mayor candidate Gricol Yang is a Commercial Banker and works for ANZ Banking Group.
Currently, Sally Capp is the Lord Mayor of Melbourne, the Victorian capital. Capp was elected as an interim Lord Mayor in mid-2018 after the former Lord Mayor Robert Doyle resigned from his position after sexual assault allegations. Doyle served as the Lord Mayor of Melbourne for almost a decade since 2008.

Char siu, the other name for Chinese Barbequed pork is in fact Cantonese-style barbequed pork. The primary requirement for cooking up this delicacy is a long stretch of boneless pork mainly taken from the shoulder. Char siu is characteristic in its own type due to its coating of seasonings which makes the meat look dark red. The seasoning ingredients of this red devil include red food coloring, sugar or honey, sherry or rice wine and five-spice powder.
How the dish is prepared and served
This BBQ variety involves a conventional cooking process. Forks are used to hold the meat within covered oven or barely over the fire. This Chinese barbequed pork is never eaten alone. It is in fact a form of accompaniment to other food preparations like Cha Siu Baau. Here the barbequed pork is stuffed in buns with Char Siu rice and is deliciously served.
However, its list of accompaniments does not end over here. Char siew can be eaten with other cookeries like salted duck egg, chicken with Soy sauce and sliced steamed chicken, roasted duck and roasted pork. Not only rice, noodles such as Lai fun, Shahe fen, and Wonton noodles too seem great with Char Siu. In Singapore, Char Siew looks brilliant with Hainanese chicken rice.

Cantonese-speaking people including Southern China, Malaysia and Singapore enjoy this dish full-flegedly and whole-heartedly. This BBQ specialty also makes its appearance in Chinese restaurants and several notable food markets of the world. Japan has however specialized in this art of barbequing, which is known as Chashu without the red sugar and five-spice preparation but obviously with sweet honey and soy sauce coating.
The art of cooking Char Siu
The preparation of this barbeque is a unique combination of mixing, marinating and roasting. After the mixing has been properly done, sliced pork of about 2 inches in width and 5 inches in length are applied to the marinade and kept in the condition from two hours till overnight. The oven should gain a heat of 425 degree and the rack should be added to the roasting pan before it is filled with water in order to make the rack lower down.
The excess marinate from the pork should be wiped off and made to stand in a line in the roasting pan. The roasting should go on for ten minutes. Now the next step would be to reduce the heat to 325 degree and allow the pork to be roasted for another thirty to forty minutes. As you turn the meat from side to side with sesame oil, peanut oil and marinade, the finishing is provided with a dash of honey for ten minutes. Then it is time for you to cut the pork into bite size pieces to make others enjoy each munch with fun and contentment.
Though the seed of Char Siu was sowed in China but the flavor of its harvest has spread to various parts of Asia. In fact, this dish of Chinese barbequed pork is tastefully striking enough to gain universal appreciation.

NASA’s Cassini–Huygens spacecraft has discovered evidence for a large-scale saltwater reservoir beneath the icy crust of Saturn’s moon Enceladus. The data came from the spacecraft’s direct analysis of salt-rich ice grains close to the jets ejected from the moon. The study has been published in this week’s edition of the journal Nature.
Data from Cassini’s cosmic dust analyzer show the grains expelled from fissures, known as tiger stripes, are relatively small and usually low in salt far away from the moon. Closer to the moon’s surface, Cassini found that relatively large grains rich with sodium and potassium dominate the plumes. The salt-rich particles have an “ocean-like” composition and indicate that most, if not all, of the expelled ice and water vapor comes from the evaporation of liquid salt-water. When water freezes, the salt is squeezed out, leaving pure water ice behind.
Cassini’s ultraviolet imaging spectrograph also recently obtained complementary results that support the presence of a subsurface ocean. A team of Cassini researchers led by Candice Hansen of the Planetary Science Institute in Tucson, Arizona, measured gas shooting out of distinct jets originating in the moon’s south polar region at five to eight times the speed of sound, several times faster than previously measured. These observations of distinct jets, from a 2010 flyby, are consistent with results showing a difference in composition of ice grains close to the moon’s surface and those that made it out to the E ring, the outermost ring that gets its material primarily from Enceladean jets. If the plumes emanated from ice, they should have very little salt in them.
“There currently is no plausible way to produce a steady outflow of salt-rich grains from solid ice across all the tiger stripes other than salt water under Enceladus’s icy surface,” said Frank Postberg, a Cassini team scientist at the University of Heidelberg in Germany.
The data suggests a layer of water between the moon’s rocky core and its icy mantle, possibly as deep as about 50 miles (80 kilometers) beneath the surface. As this water washes against the rocks, it dissolves salt compounds and rises through fractures in the overlying ice to form reserves nearer the surface. If the outermost layer cracks open, the decrease in pressure from these reserves to space causes a plume to shoot out. Roughly 400 pounds (200 kilograms) of water vapor is lost every second in the plumes, with smaller amounts being lost as ice grains. The team calculates the water reserves must have large evaporating surfaces, or they would freeze easily and stop the plumes.
“We imagine that between the ice and the ice core there is an ocean of depth and this is somehow connected to the surface reservoir,” added Postberg.
The Cassini mission discovered Enceladus’ water-vapor and ice jets in 2005. In 2009, scientists working with the cosmic dust analyzer examined some sodium salts found in ice grains of Saturn’s E ring but the link to subsurface salt water was not definitive. The new paper analyzes three Enceladus flybys in 2008 and 2009 with the same instrument, focusing on the composition of freshly ejected plume grains. In 2008, Cassini discovered a high “density of volatile gases, water vapor, carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide, as well as organic materials, some 20 times denser than expected” in geysers erupting from the moon. The icy particles hit the detector target at speeds between 15,000 and 39,000 MPH (23,000 and 63,000 KPH), vaporizing instantly. Electrical fields inside the cosmic dust analyzer separated the various constituents of the impact cloud.
“Enceladus has got warmth, water and organic chemicals, some of the essential building blocks needed for life,” said Dennis Matson in 2008, Cassini project scientist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California.
“This finding is a crucial new piece of evidence showing that environmental conditions favorable to the emergence of life can be sustained on icy bodies orbiting gas giant planets,” said Nicolas Altobelli, the European Space Agency’s project scientist for Cassini.
“If there is water in such an unexpected place, it leaves possibility for the rest of the universe,” said Postberg.
