2020 Melbourne Lord Mayor candidate Wayne Tseng answered some questions about his campaign for the upcoming election from Wikinews. The Lord Mayor election in the Australian city is scheduled to take place this week.

Tseng runs a firm called eTranslate, which helps software developers to make the software available to the users. In the candidate’s questionnaire, Tseng said eTranslate had led to him working with all three tiers of the government. He previously belonged to the Australian Liberal Party, but has left since then, to run for mayorship as an independent candidate.

Tseng is of Chinese descent, having moved to Australia with his parents from Vietnam. Graduated in Brisbane, Tseng received his PhD in Melbourne and has been living in the city, he told Wikinews. Tseng also formed Chinese Precinct Chamber of Commerce, an organisation responsible for many “community bond building initiatives”, the Lord Mayor candidate told Wikinews.

Tseng discussed his plans for leading Melbourne, recovering from COVID-19, and “Democracy 2.0” to ensure concerns of minorities in the city were also heard. Tseng also focused on the importance of the multi-culture aspect and talked about making Melbourne the capital of the aboriginals. Tseng also explained why he thinks Melbourne is poised to be a world city by 2030.

Tseng’s deputy Lord Mayor candidate Gricol Yang is a Commercial Banker and works for ANZ Banking Group.

Currently, Sally Capp is the Lord Mayor of Melbourne, the Victorian capital. Capp was elected as an interim Lord Mayor in mid-2018 after the former Lord Mayor Robert Doyle resigned from his position after sexual assault allegations. Doyle served as the Lord Mayor of Melbourne for almost a decade since 2008.

In NYC, braces are used by a large number of people both adults and children.

It is best to wear braces when one is still young. If you feel that something is wrong with your child s teeth, first make an appointment with the dentist. Make sure that you do not cause any delay in taking appointment from a dentist in NYC to find out exactly what the problem is. Once the dentist has determined the root cause of the problem, he/she will be able to prescribe the patient what measures to undertake for correcting the condition.

Sometimes, simply putting braces at the right time can be sufficient in curing the dental condition. Remember to use only that braces which are recognized by The American Dental Association or ADA. Also use braces strictly under the guidance of the dentist. He or she is the best person to judge your dental condition and will prescribe you to use braces if your condition needs it to be used.

However dentistry has evolved a lot since its inception and many improvements have been made. So these days, you can get invisible braces to use for correcting the dental conditions. Invisible braces are easy to use and being invisible they are not at all visible, so one can use them without any fuss.

New species of dart frog discovered in Colombia

Thursday, August 30, 2007

Scientists have discovered a new species of venomous dart frog in Colombia.

The new species, dubbed the ‘golden frog of Supatá’, is 2cm (0.8 inch) long and has a range of just 50 acres (20 hectares), which is believed to be the reason why the frog remained undiscovered until now.

The frog was found in February during an expedition arranged by the Conservation Leadership Program (CLP), a nonprofit organization, but the discovery has only just been announced.

However, according to Giovanni Chaves, a biologist from the CLP, the frog is in imminent danger. “This frog exists in a little fragment of cloud forest that is under intense {{w|anthropogenic]] pressure, mainly the destruction of the forest for cattle-raising and agriculture,” he said.

“This discovery allows us to know a little more about the ecology of these beautiful animals, and it will also allow us to use it as a symbol to carry out campaigns of environmental education in this area, to show the need to protect and to conserve the fauna and flora of this region of Colombia.”

Colombia has one of the richest diversities of amphibians in the world, with more than 583 known species.

NBC employee wins $266M from California lottery

Thursday, May 6, 2010

An NBC employee won US$266 million from the California Lottery’s Mega Millions drawing.

The winner, wishing to remain anonymous, will receive $165 million in total, after federal taxes, reports spokesperson for the lottery Cathy Doyle Johnston.

David Reese, a KNBC assistant manager, was informed by the winner around 2:30 local time Wednesday. Reese told the employees working the night shift to keep the name a secret until the winner wishes to step forward.

Reese said the winner worked for NBC as a freelancer for four years, and her husband was laid off two weeks ago.

L & L Hawaiian BBQ in Pico Rivera, California, sold the winning ticket with the numbers 9, 21, 31, 36, 43, and the “Mega Number” 8. Danny He, the owner of the BBQ, will receive $1 million from the lottery for selling the winning ticket.

According to lottery officials, there was a 1 in 175,711,536 chance in winning with all six numbers with 38 other states and the District of Colombia playing as well.

Recovery plan for New Orleans to be ratified

Saturday, February 10, 2007

In a community congress in January, residents of the devastated city of New Orleans offered their support for a sweeping plan to rebuild the city, its districts and its neighborhoods. The “Unified New Orleans Plan” is a multi-faceted document that incorporates a number of different recovery planning efforts, including federal infrastructure plans and specific small-scale blueprints developed by individual neighborhoods.

Residents overwhelmingly approved the comprehensive recovery and rebuilding plan, which is expected to be reviewed and ratified by the city in February. The plan offers incentives for raising houses.

Concerns have been raised over whether some of the hard lessons taught by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita have been learnt. The Washington Post reports that some residents are beginning to rebuild their homes in the same vulnerable floodplains that in Fall 2005 were under 10 to 20 feet of water. Despite the threat, a surprising amount of the new development in New Orleans is being built without raised foundations.

Mayor C. Ray Nagin has been a proponent of allowing people to return to their old neighborhoods, even if they are particularly vulnerable. But as rebuilding continues, planning officials recognize that encouraging people to return to susceptible floodplains could pose another big problem down the road.

The Bush administration wants to dedicate 3.1 billion dollars to the repairs of flood defences.

According to a study by the Rand Corporation in three years the city will have a population of only 275,000 compared to 465,000 inhabitants before Hurricane Katrina.

The disaster also brings the unique opportunity for modernization. Ecological activist organizations have been writing green guidelines for New Orleans schools that the Louisiana Recovery Authority wants to incorporate into its plan.In American history, the challenge to rebuild vast swaths of a city is comparable to the great Chicago Fire of 1871 and the San Francisco earthquake of 1906. Both projects were much further along in their recovery 18 months after the tragedy than New Orleans is today.

The Numerous Utilizations For Silver

The Numerous Utilizations For Silver

by

Mike Francis

Just before 1900, when various deposits of silver were still hidden in the U.S., silver was greatly valued in countless regions and even served as the principal element of their economy. These days, silver coins are not produced in the US, however they are still being produced in Canada and can be easily purchased in numerous values there.

Its evolution from usage as unit of currency to the silver we have today has verified that silver still possesses tremendous monetary worth as a metal. Its highly regarded by investors who trade in the precious metals market and has at the same time become incredibly in demand as a component for loads of other uses.

Silver in Silverware and Precious jewelry

2 common uses for silver are found in the jewelry and silverware fields. In the U.S., there are specified specifications having to do with the usage of silver in these industries, and a strict technique has to be complied with to classify an item as sterling, or standard silver, in order that the high quality of the metal is controlled for production.

Even though jewelry made of gold might be really well-liked, the adoption of silver in pieces ofjewelry has come to be a really common practice in the fashion world recently. The blend of elegance and lower cost that silver possesses makes it the plausible choice in precious metal for both hungry designers and customers who desire to get the most out of their acquisition.

Also, there is a strong practice where silver is employed to make eating utensils and numerous silver articles, referred to as silverware. Historically, pieces identified as silverware were actually produced by craftsmen called silversmiths, and they included everything from dinnerware and attractive dishes to urns and candle holders.

In the present day, the expert silversmith has diminished as a vocation, and silverware has become more rare, making these items much more precious in their scarceness.

Silver in Technology and Medication

It\’s intriguing to see that silver\’s part in the tech business was once almost entirely focused on the specialty of taking photos, where it was usually used to serve in the procedure of color film development. Even so, with the arrival of digital technology and the small demand for film, this particular use for silver has diminished considerably.

The usage of silver has now changed to several new areas within the high tech sector, and we can now see its use in the making of materials like printed circuits, audio equipment and even computer keyboards. The use of silver in the field of technology has more than replaced its decreased use in photography and has been instrumental in reaching its current importance.

Surprisingly, silver has qualities that also make it particularly suitable for utilization in the health field. It is often used in a variety of forms to eliminate certain varieties of germs and bacterias, which it can do without causing harm to people, as certain other metals do.

This particular anti-biotic feature of silver has brought on its use in gauzes and healing ointments, particularly those in association with burns. Also, catheters made out of silver alloy have actually been found to be efficient in limiting germs, therefore helping to avoid urinary tract infections in patients.

Various other utilizations of silver are found in the assembly of mirrors, the manufacturing of polyester fibers, as a soldering element, and as a reacting element in nuclear reactors. Suspects deny London bomb plot, say lawyers

Sunday, June 4, 2006

The two brothers who were arrested on Friday regarding intelligence of a chemical bomb plot in East London have denied all the accusations, according to their lawyers.

In relation to the accusations of manufacturing a chemical device, Kate Roxburgh, Mohammed Abdul Kahar’s lawyer, said “(Kahar) says there’s absolutely not a word of truth in any of it. He says the police are not going to find anything because there is nothing to find.”

Koyair’s lawyer has denied his client has been involved in a terrorist plot.

The announcement comes after the dramatic events of Friday morning, where over 250 police officers were involved in a raid on a house in the Forest Gate area of the city. The raid took place after British security services received intelligence of a “viable” chemical device within the property.

Mohammed Abdul Kahar, aged 23, and his 20 year-old brother Abul Koyair were arrested in a dawn raid on Friday under the Terrorism Act after several weeks of surveillance by MI5. During the operation, Kahar was shot in the shoulder.

Early reports suggested that police were responsible for the injury, from which Kahar is now recovering. However, one source claims that it was actually Abul Koyair who pulled the trigger, accidentally wounding his brother in the panic – an allegation that Koyair has denied.

The brothers, who are both Muslim and of Bangladeshi origin, are being questioned today at London’s high-security Paddington Green Police Station. Meanwhile, police officers are still searching the house for a device, which they believe to be a conventional explosive with added chemical components.

Due to the ongoing investigations, there is still a large police presence at the residence, as well as a layer of sheeting surrounding the building. Despite the small yet ever-present chance of a chemical incident, other residents of the street have not been evacuated.

In response to safety fears, police said that “nothing suspicious was found in an initial search of the house and that neighbours are not in danger.”

BBC News reported that Health Secretary Patricia Hewitt was “keeping ministers informed” about the unfolding situation but would not comment about specific points of the investigation.

3 First Class Reasons For Buying Travel Medical Insurance

For most people travel insurance is merely seen as one of several extras that the travel agent tries to get us to add to our holiday package to help boost his profits and to make our holiday even more expensive than it already is. But, there are 3 very important reasons for ensuring that you do not leave home without your international travel medical insurance policy in your pocket.

First, a travel insurance policy will protect you from losing all of your financial investment in your holiday should an emergency crop up and you are forced to cancel your trip. This is especially true when you are arranging your holiday well in advance because you never know what may happen in the weeks or months leading up to your trip. This said, by their very nature emergencies tend to appear at any time and without warning and so this is one form of protection that really should not be set against any timeframe.

It is only natural to think that nothing is ever going to happen to us but a holiday trip can often involve a considerable up-front payment and the loss of this money could well mean that you are unable to re-arrange your trip later on.

Second, a travel insurance policy permits you to pay for medical treatment both while you are traveling and at your destination and, if you are unlucky enough to have a serious illness or accident, will also pay for you and your family to return home if this proves necessary.

Medical treatment could well be excellent abroad and it might even be considerably less expensive than it is at home. Nevertheless, a stay in hospital might still lead to a very large bill that will eat deeply into your spending money. You might also find that medical treatment abroad leaves a lot to be desired and you might well need to curtail your trip and head back home to get the treatment you require.

Third, a travel insurance policy will protect the value of your possessions both while you are traveling and abroad so that you will receive compensation in the event of loss.

If you have spent any time traveling then you will almost certainly have suffered the loss of your luggage at some time and will know only too well just how inconvenient and costly it is. I will never forget stopping for a meal on my way to the airport at the end of one particular holiday and very carefully securing my bag in the trunk of my hire car. When I returned about thirty minutes later I found that someone had picked the lock on the passenger door and folded the rear seat down to get into the boot and remove my case.

I also remember only too well sitting at a road junction one hot and sunny day when a motorcycle pulled up alongside the car and a man reached in through the open passenger side window and snatched my mother’s purse which was by her feet on the floor.

Traveling overseas is expensive at the best of times but traveling without adequate insurance can land you with bills which you simply do not have the money to pay. So, if you are planning a trip remember to add travel insurance to your holiday list.
